Mindful Monday: Mean Reds & Seasonal Blues

Monday, October 26, 2015

I few weeks ago I was going through a funk. I notice my funks come on with the seasons which is another reason why I am ready for this late California summer weather to be over.  I also think this may have something to do with it.

When I am in a funk I do not realize it is happening until the bottom falls out. To make matters worse, I slack off on working out because I have low energy, but skipping my workouts makes me feel worse.

This scene from Breakfast at Tiffany's explains it well...

Since I am recently got over a funk, and it is fresh on my mind, here are some suggestions on getting over the mean reds or seasonal blues:

1. Don't be ashamed to tell someone how you are feeling.  I promise you, we've all had those days.

2.  Do go outside. On some days, I like to stand in our backyard and take a couple deep breaths or I recently started taking my laptop outside

3.  Don't skip on a good sweat session.  If you're up to it, sign up for a new class or ask a friend to workout with you. I have committed to go running with my neighbor friend at 5:15 a.m. on Tuesdays--wish me luck!

4.  Do go have fun. Try doing something out of the ordinary.  For instance, go explore a side of your town you have never been or plan a weekend getaway.  Road trips and dancing always make me feel better.

5.  Don't underestimate a good hug and good sleep

I hope these suggestions help because we all can't be cured by a trip to Tiffany's!

I would really love to here how you deal with your funks? Do you know when they are coming on? Have you ever tried using one of these lamps? Any other suggestions for combating the funks?
